Brushnotes – April / May 2014

President’s Report

The Website is all but complete and what a lovely display of
Artwork we have on our site.

WJAS have 2 Grants up for consideration, presenting paperwork
for a grant takes a lot of time and effort and I would like to
thank our Secretary, Celestine for completing the documents.
We should know in the next 3 months if WJAS have been
successful.

Graham Dowley is the face of our May Exhibition and his
photo and Art is sorted. Our Card of the Year is in production
and we hope to have some cards on sale at the Exhibition in
May. Andrea Mitchell MLA is opening the May Exhibition on
Friday evening.

Thursday 26th June is the date of our 40th Birthday Lunch.
We have invited our Patron and Life Members as our guests
and hope they can attend. If you know someone who is a past
member or just a lover of Art and would like to join us please
invite him or her.

Welcome to our three new Committee Members, Jessie-Anne
Clements, Heather and Roger Bayzand. There is a busy time
ahead for the WJAS Committee, organising and supervising
the May Exhibition and our 40th Birthday Celebration in June.
Trish Wheatly has taken over as Demonstration Officer and
has the year sorted with a great mix of Guest Artists.
I’ve received word that the Claremont School of Art will lose
their premises at the end of next term. The Art School has
been running for about 45 years. As many people use this great
community service I hope they are successful in finding new
premises.

Our May Exhibition will be my first Exhibition as your
President and I must admit to feeling excited but apprehensive
about the event. My Committee is very supportive and with all
those members who are exhibiting, helping in some way,
I’m sure we shall have a successful Exhibition.

Happy painting.

Brushnotes – February / March 2014

President’s Report

Around 60 members and guests attended our January Art and fun
night. So many people came and told me what a great idea the
evening was, how much they enjoyed the opportunity to socialize
and interact.

The comments about the venue were all positive. The kitchen
cupboard works well and I propose to put in a small box of our
drinking glasses, to be used for water at the meetings.
We had some minor teething problems with the microphone
competing with the air-conditioning and fans, creating a bit of a
nuisance with the speaker system, but we shall get it sorted.
It’s lovely to see such a great display of artworks at our In House
Exhibitions. Thank you to all who contribute. I hope you enjoyed
more emphasis placed on this special part of our meeting.
Certificates for our In house Art Exhibition and People’s Choice
Award needed to be updated with the name WJAS and Logo; this
has been completed and are now in use.

Because I was asked to send Xmas Cards to our VIP’s and was
very embarrassed to have to purchase Commercial Cards, your
committee has decided to hold an in house Art Competition at the
18th March Meeting, the winning painting will be WJAS card of the
year. We shall have the painting photo’d and printed. The prize will
be the honor of this card sent out promoting yourself and WJAS for
this year. Start painting.

Please keep the 26th June available as this is when we shall
celebrate our 40th Birthday with a formal Lunch at Hillary Yacht
Club.

Special Demonstrators at our March meeting are Barry and Lucy
McCann from NSW. They have won numerous prizes, including the
Archibald, Black Swan, Kigo, Mortimore etc. We are very fortunate
to have this talented couple demonstrate for us.
May 22nd is the set up date for our first Exhibition at SSLSC for
2014.

I wish you happy painting and look forward to viewing the results.

Brushnotes Feb-Mar2014

Brushnotes – December 2013 / January 2014

President’s Report

As an Artistic Director in the Fashion Industry for over 30 years, I have a natural love of vivid colour and texture. These are often key signatures in my design work and paintings. The love of stylized compositions stems directly from my formal Graphic Design training, I enjoy using my creative talents to benefit others.

Therefore I believe I have sufficient qualities to assume the roll of President for WJAS.

I feel that I have been thrown in at the deep end and still swimming. At first I dogpaddled around in circles, but with the help of my willing committee have now gained my water wings and look forward to stretching out and racing to the end. The past 2 months have been an interesting learning curve .

Emailing out the minutes from our General Meetings has began and if you have an email address and not received these please contact me with your details. The proposed black hessian for our exhibition stands will enhance most paintings at our exhibitions and complete a look of unity, we need everything to help stimulate sales. A grant will be sought to help offset the cost.

2014 we meet in our new venue for WJAS General Meetings, starting 21st January. These will be held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at a Joondalup Community Hall, corner of Dampier Avenue and Mullaloo Drive, Kallaroo. I hope to see you there. Setting up our Website is progressing and each member is invited to provide 4 images of their paintings for our Public Gallery. These photos could be of older work or sold art, we require the Image files to be named with: Artist name + title + medium. Alternatively, you can include your name, title and medium for each piece on the email, please send to- Dameon Web Design contact@dameonjamie.com

My committee and I wish you a very Merry Christmas and happy New Year.
